List of Market Studies by Jurisdiction
List of Market Studies by Sector
The lists are organized by jurisdiction and by sector. Market studies are listed in reverse date order, and alphabetically, by jurisdiction and by sector.
Purpose of the information store
One of the projects identified in the 2009-2010 Advocacy Working Group work programme (which can be downloaded here) was to create a market studies information store for the ICN website, with the aim of facilitating the sharing of knowledge and best practice on market studies.
It is hoped that the store will be useful in identifying ICN members’ market studies experience in particular sectors, which may assist fellow ICN members with:
- identifying issues for study
- the cross-fertilisation of ideas about market issues
- identifying approaches to particular market problems
- identifying ICN members who may be able to assist/advise further on their experience of conducting market studies in particular sectors.
Using the information store
The information store contains details of market studies conducted by ICN members over 5 years ending in December 2009, which ICN members have kindly provided. Entries in the information store include the following information:
- source of idea for the study
- reason for the study (what were the problems)
- end date/duration of the study
- the outcome of the study (where known as some of the studies may still be on-going or their purpose may only have been to research the sector or acquire knowledge)
- a link, if available, to the market study report (if possible the link will be to the English language version, where this is not possible then the link will be to the report in the authority language)
The range of possible outcomes of market studies included in the store are:
- competition enforcement action
- consumer enforcement action
- consumer education
- business education
- voluntary business compliance
- voluntary business action
- recommendations to government for changes in the law
- recommendations to government to change market structure
- recommendations for changes to government policy
- referral to third parties
- no problems found
Contacting other authorities to discuss their market studies
If ICN members have used the information store to identify other ICN members who may be able to assist/advise further on their market studies experience in particular sectors, it is suggested that they contact the relevant ICN member using the central ICN contacts list. Contacts on that list can then put information store users in touch with appropriate personnel within the relevant ICN member authority.
The central ICN contacts list can be found here.
Updating the information store and future contributions
Many thanks to those ICN members who have contributed information and assistance in creating this information store. It is the ICN Secretariat’s intention to seek new entries and updates of existing information on an annual basis and ICN members will be contacted at the appropriate time.
We hope you find the Information Store useful. We would welcome your feedback. Please email your feedback to: icn.msinfostore@oft.gsi.gov.uk
