Some competition agencies run targeted awareness campaigns, which respond to the unique needs of a target audience.
For the introduction of new legislation
The New Zealand Commerce Commission engaged in a targeted business outreach campaign with the introduction of new legislation enforced by the Commission, the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act. In the lead up to the beginning of enforcement, the Commission produced two publications for the credit industry:
- What you need to know - Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act
- A general guide - Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act
These are targeted respectively at consumers and businesses whose activities are covered by the Act.
Before the Act’s introduction, the Commission also gave presentations to representatives of the credit industry, to relevant agencies such as the Banking Ombudsman and to the media to raise awareness about the new Act.
For the small business community
The United Kingdom’s Office of Fair Trading is running a year long Championing Competition Campaign from April 2005 - March 2006. The aim is that each campaign activity works to build awareness in a cumulative way, resulting in a measurable increase in understanding and support for the concept.
